19-Year-Old Charged with Manslaughter After Body Found in Labasa

A 19-year-old male student from Labasa has been charged with manslaughter following the discovery of a man’s body last week.

On January 19, the body of a 49-year-old man was found lying motionless on a vacant piece of land in Naodamu, Labasa.

Police investigations revealed the man had been assaulted before his death.

CCTV footage showed the victim and the accused drinking together at a nightclub the night before the body was found.

Additional footage from town revealed that the victim followed the accused after the club closed.

Witnesses later confirmed that the accused assaulted the victim at a well-known drinking spot.

The man’s body was discovered the following morning.

The accused has been charged with one count of manslaughter under Section 239 of the Crimes Act 2009.

He is scheduled to appear in the Labasa Magistrate Court today.
