20 years of service inspires USP graduate to pursue PhD

After 20 years of service with the iTaukei Land Trust Board, Lui Tavunawi says completing his studies at the University of the South Pacific will be a bonus to his work experience as he continues to pursue higher education.

Tavunawi, from Nabalabala, Tokaimalo in Ra, is a team leader at the iTaukei Land Trust Board in Rakiraki.

He has completed a Diploma in Commerce, majoring in Land Management, and says he is now pursuing a Master’s in Commerce in Land Management while working towards a PhD.

Tavunawi says he is grateful to the School of Land Management and its Head, Dr Joeli Varo, for their support and education throughout his studies.

He also dedicated his achievement to his family, particularly his wife and children back in the village, who have supported him throughout his journey.

“I want to thank the Lord who has been with me all along since the day I started here at USP,” Tavunawi said.

He said his family travelled from Rakiraki, Ra, to be part of the graduation ceremony.

Tavunawi says his latest academic achievement adds to the experience he has gained through his 20 years of service with the iTaukei Land Trust Board.

He says he is grateful to his family and the School of Land Management for being part of his journey.
