76 People Arrested in Fiji for Drug-Related Offenses

Police have arrested 76 individuals across Fiji this week for drug-related offenses as operations intensify during the festive season.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACPO) Livai Driu highlighted the diverse range of cases and suspects.
The oldest suspect, a 64-year-old man, was apprehended at the Ba fish market with seven sachets of dried leaves suspected to be marijuana.
Similarly, a 63-year-old carpenter in Bua was found with five marijuana plants measuring 70–90 cm.
In Lautoka, a 58-year-old man was caught with a shopping bag containing dried leaves believed to be marijuana and over $3,000 in suspected criminal proceeds.
Another notable arrest involved a 51-year-old electrician carrying plastic bags of white substances suspected to be methamphetamine.
Young offenders were also among those arrested, a 19-year-old farmer in Savusavu was found with five sachets of suspected marijuana, while a 19-year-old woman and her 25-year-old friend in Nadi were found in possession of marijuana after failing to pay a taxi fare.
Drug-related activities were uncovered through roadblocks, raids, stop-and-search efforts, and assistance from the K-9 Unit.
ACP Driu praised the support of community leaders, including chiefs and Turaga ni Koro, for providing crucial information leading to arrests.
Police have reaffirmed their commitment to cracking down on drug-related crimes and maintaining safety during the festive period.
