95 Undersized Crabs Seized in Central Division from Market Vendors

A joint operation between the Ministry of Fisheries and the Republic of Fiji Military Forces Naval Division has led to the seizure of 95 undersized mudcrabs from fish markets in the Central Division over the weekend.
The operation, carried out in response to complaints, aimed to enforce Fiji’s Fisheries Act, which prohibits the sale of undersized crabs to protect marine resources.
The confiscated crabs were released back into the sea to allow them to mature.
Authorities also seized protected Triton and conch shells and warned vendors to comply with regulations.
The Ministry of Fisheries reminded sellers that mudcrabs must be at least 12.5 cm in size before they can be sold.
“This is part of our efforts to sustain marine resources for future generations,” the Ministry stated, urging vendors to follow the rules to avoid further confiscations.
