Fiji and UAE Discuss Waste and Climate Action

Fiji and the United Arab Emirates are exploring stronger cooperation in waste management, recycling and climate action.

Minister Lynda Tabuya met UAE Minister Dr Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak Al Shamsi in New York to discuss reducing waste sent to Naboro Landfill and expanding Fiji’s trashboom programme to prevent rubbish from reaching the ocean.

The ministers also discussed climate resilience and renewable energy, including the UAE’s US$1.5 million commitment to the LAKARO Renewable Energy Project in Lakeba, Kadavu and Rotuma.
