Judgment in Senior Police Officer’s Bribery Case Deferred

Judgment in Senior Police Officer’s Bribery Case Deferred

The judgment of senior police officer George Lagi, who is facing a bribery charge, has been deferred to September 23.

Lagi, a Criminal Investigations Department officer, appeared before Magistrate Shageeth Somaratne for judgment today. However, the court adjourned the matter.

The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) alleges that Lagi accepted a financial advantage of $6,580.14 from Divindra Bhagat between October 1, 2012, and January 31, 2014.

At the time, Lagi was employed as a CID officer and the alleged payment was reportedly connected to the performance of his official duties.

Lagi is represented by lawyer Joji Cakau.

The court also extended his bail.

The case will return to court on September 23, when judgment is expected to be delivered.
