Government Support Revives 60-Year-Old Ladies Zanana League Facility in Labasa

A 60-year-old community facility used by the Ladies Zanana League in Bulileka, Labasa, has been restored following significant termite damage and roof leakages.

The renovated facility was officially commissioned today by the Minister for Multi-Ethnic Affairs, Culture, Heritage and Arts, Honourable Charan Jeath Singh.

Ladies Zanana League President Fozia Munaf said the organisation was grateful for Government assistance, as raising enough funds independently for the major renovation would have been difficult.

She said the building had suffered extensive termite infestation, while the damaged roof caused leakages during heavy rain, disrupting prayer sessions and other activities.

Munaf thanked the Ministry for providing a grant that allowed the organisation to repair and improve the facility.

Speaking at the commissioning, Minister Singh said community and faith-based organisations play an important role in bringing people together and preserving Fiji’s cultural and religious traditions.

He said the Government would continue supporting inclusive community development and partnerships across Fiji’s diverse communities.

The renovated facility will now provide members of the Ladies Zanana League with a safer and more suitable space to conduct their religious and community activities.
