Agni Deo Singh’s Parliamentary Seat to Remain Vacant Until Next Election

The parliamentary seat left vacant following the death of National Federation Party (NFP) Member of Parliament and Minister for Employment, Productivity and Workplace Relations Agni Deo Singh will remain vacant until the next General Election.

The vacancy is governed by Section 64(3) of the Constitution and Section 20 of the Electoral Act 2014, which provide the legal framework for managing vacant parliamentary seats.

Under these provisions, the seat will not be filled through a by-election and will remain vacant until the next General Election.

Singh’s death has resulted in the vacancy of his parliamentary seat at a time when Fiji is approaching its next national election.

The 2026/2027 General Election is required to be held between 7 August 2026 and 6 February 2027.

The vacant seat will therefore remain unoccupied in Parliament until voters go to the polls and the next Parliament is determined through the General Election.

Singh served as an NFP Member of Parliament and Minister for Employment, Productivity and Workplace Relations before his death.
