Agreement Reached Ahead of Sugar Crushing Season

The National Union of Workers (NUW) and the Fiji Sugar Corporation (FSC) have reached agreement on all major industrial matters ahead of the 2026 sugar crushing season following discussions facilitated by the Ministry of Employment, Productivity and Workplace Relations.
The agreement was reached during a meeting convened in Nadi today at the invitation of the Minister for Employment, Productivity and Workplace Relations, Honourable Agni Deo Singh. The discussions focused on roster backpay, the Collective Agreement and roster arrangements for the 2026 crushing season.
The parties agreed to finalise the calculations for workers' roster backpay and sign a Memorandum of Agreement on 9 July 2026. They also resolved all outstanding matters relating to the Collective Agreement, which will be signed on 28 July 2026 and will cover Tradesmen, Clerks and General Employees.
Agreement was also reached on the roster arrangements for the 2026 crushing season, which take effect immediately.
Minister Singh welcomed the outcome, saying it reflects the value of constructive dialogue in resolving workplace issues.

Minister Singh commended both the National Union of Workers and the Fiji Sugar Corporation for their cooperation and commitment to resolving the matters amicably.
The National Union of Workers also acknowledged the Employment Minister for his timely intervention and thanked FSC management for its constructive engagement.
Unionised workers across the three sugar mills are expected to report for duty in accordance with the agreed rosters commencing from midnight tonight.
