Aircraft Accident at Yasawa Aerodrome

A GA-8 Airvan aircraft, registration DQ-VAN, was involved in an accident at Yasawa Aerodrome on Saturday morning, December 21, 2024.
The aircraft, which departed Nadi Airport at 9:49 AM, overran the runway during landing and came to a stop just outside the runway strip.
The aircraft sustained damage to its nose wheel and propeller.
Fortunately, the pilot and six passengers onboard were unharmed, and no injuries were reported.
The runway remains operational, and aviation activities at Yasawa Aerodrome continue as normal.
The Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation, Hon. Viliame Gavoka, will appoint an investigator to conduct a thorough inquiry into the accident following international safety standards.
The investigation aims to identify any necessary improvements to enhance aviation safety.
The Ministry emphasized its commitment to the safety and well-being of passengers, crew, and all stakeholders in Fiji’s aviation sector, expressing gratitude to the authorities for their swift response.
