Attempted Armoury Break-In Triggers Joint RFMF and Police Operations
FIJI NEWSTOP STORIES

An attempted break-in at a military armoury and efforts to steal firearms have triggered joint security operations by the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) and the Fiji Police Force.
The RFMF confirmed it is working closely with police following what it described as serious attempts to undermine security at military installations.
In a statement, the military said the operations are being carried out in line with its constitutional mandate under the 2013 Constitution, which requires the Force to ensure the security, defence, and well-being of Fiji and its people.
The Force said it is supporting civil authorities to preserve public order and maintain national stability.
According to the statement, the joint operations are a response to “unacceptable challenges to security,” including threats to military infrastructure and isolated acts of violence against civilians and officers.
“These actions not only undermine the rule of law but also threaten the collective safety and confidence of the nation,” the RFMF said.
The military has issued a strong warning, stating that any attempts to destabilise national security will be dealt with firmly.
“We put on notice that any attempt to destabilise national security or endanger the well-being of citizens will be met with firm, lawful, and proportionate action,” the statement said.
Authorities have also warned members of the public against assisting individuals involved in criminal activity, stressing that providing shelter or support is an offence and undermines national security.
The RFMF said the operations will continue as long as necessary to restore a safe and stable environment, adding that all actions are being carried out with full respect for the rule of law and the rights of citizens.
Members of the public are being urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the relevant authorities.
