Bula FC’s hopes of finishing top of Phase 1 in the OFC Pro League have been officially ended by Auckland on their own home soil in Ba, after their 3–2 win over Melbourne made it mathematically impossible for Bula FC to finish first, with Auckland still having three games to play.

That result takes Auckland to 26 points, showing a clear dominance in the competition and leaving Bula FC on 18 with two matches remaining — against South Melbourne FC and Auckland FC.

Even if Bula FC win both fixtures, they can only reach a maximum of 24 points, which is still not enough to catch Auckland.

The outcome confirms that Bula FC are now mathematically out of contention for first place in Phase 1.

The privately run Fijian club was never fully in contention, with mixed results throughout the campaign, preventing them from building any real momentum at the top of the table.

Bula FC also became the first side in OFC Pro League history to be knocked out of top place contention on their own home soil.

Captain Roy Krishna has managed just two goals so far, one from a corner and one from the penalty spot, continuing a run of underwhelming performances.

It is a tough blow for the Fijian side, particularly as it comes in front of their home fans.

Instead, Auckland’s consistency throughout the competition has proven decisive, with the New Zealand side maintaining its grip on first place at a crucial stage.
