The Fiji Police Force has recorded 13 serious road accidents from January 1 to January 13, 2025, raising concerns about road safety.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mitilei Divuana, Director of Traffic and Transport Control, urged drivers to prioritize safety, especially with schools reopening soon.

“We are worried about the high number of accidents caused by drivers losing control of their vehicles, often ending up in drains,” SSP Divuana said.

Out of the 13 accidents, 11 were linked to speeding and driver fatigue, SSP Divuana advised drivers to plan trips carefully, take breaks during long journeys, and avoid rushing.

“Your safety should come first. Rest if you feel tired and use Community Posts along the highway to stop and recharge,” he added.

Although no fatalities have been recorded this year compared to two during the same period last year, Police traffic officers will continue checks and awareness campaigns to keep roads safe.
