Bose Levu Vakaturaga Bill 2026 Passed in Parliament

Bose Levu Vakaturaga Bill 2026 Passed in Parliament

The Bose Levu Vakaturaga Bill 2026 has been unanimously passed by Parliament, giving the Great Council of Chiefs a new statutory framework.

The legislation formally continues the Great Council of Chiefs as the Bose Levu Vakaturaga and provides for its membership, leadership, functions, administration and financial accountability.

The Bill was introduced by Minister for iTaukei Affairs Ifereimi Vasu under Standing Order 51 and was considered without referral to a Standing Committee.

The legislation establishes the Bose Levu Vakaturaga under its own statutory framework, marking a significant development in the formal recognition and administration of the traditional iTaukei institution.
