Box Jellyfish Spotted in Fiji Waters for the First Time
FIJI NEWSTOP STORIES

Fijians are being urged to take extra caution at sea after dangerous box jellyfish were spotted in local waters.
The Ministry of Health and Medical Services, together with the Ministry of Fisheries, has issued a public warning following reports of the highly venomous species, known as box jellyfish.
Health officials say several people have already sought medical attention after experiencing breathing problems and other serious symptoms after being in the water.
Box jellyfish are considered one of the most dangerous marine animals in the world. Their sting can cause severe pain, breathing difficulties, and in some cases, life-threatening complications.
Authorities are advising the public to avoid swimming in affected areas, especially during dawn and dusk when jellyfish are more active.
People are also encouraged to wear protective clothing when entering the water and to follow all safety warnings issued by local authorities.
If stung, members of the public are advised to seek immediate medical attention. Vinegar can be used as a first aid measure to help reduce the effects of the sting, but professional treatment is still necessary.
The Ministry has also urged communities to report any sightings and to remain alert while using coastal waters.
Officials say the warning is part of ongoing efforts to protect public safety and reduce the risk of serious injury.
