Police are investigating the tragic death of a 12-year-old student from Sabeto, Nadi, who died after falling from a moving vehicle yesterday.

The boy was reportedly traveling with other youths on the back tray of a carrier along Natadola.

The vehicle drove over potholes, causing him to be thrown onto the tarsealed road.

He was rushed to Sigatoka Hospital but later passed away.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACPO) Livai Driu described the incident as heartbreaking.

"Despite our calls for road safety during the festive season and Police presence on the roads, incidents like this occur because drivers fail to act responsibly," he said.

ACP Driu emphasized that Police cannot be everywhere to enforce safety and urged drivers to take responsibility.

The student’s body is at Sigatoka Hospital, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
