The Chinese government has strongly condemned the United States for imposing tariffs on its trading partners, including China, accusing Washington of violating World Trade Organization (WTO) rules and disrupting the global economic order.

In a statement released on April 5, China criticized the U.S. for what it described as unilateralism, protectionism, and economic bullying.

The statement claims the U.S. is exploiting tariffs to advance its own interests at the expense of international cooperation, disregarding the benefits it has long reaped from global trade.

“Under the guise of reciprocity and fairness, the United States is pursuing an ‘America First’ policy, undermining the common good of the international community,” the statement read.

Beijing warned that such actions would inevitably face widespread opposition worldwide.

China reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding its sovereignty, security, and development interests.

The government emphasized that China-U.S. economic relations should be mutually beneficial and called on the U.S. to stop using tariffs as a weapon to suppress China’s growth.

As the world’s second-largest economy and consumer market, China pledged to continue opening up to the global market, implementing high-standard trade and investment policies, and fostering an international business environment based on fairness and the rule of law.

Beijing also stressed that economic globalization is an irreversible trend and that protectionism is a “dead end.” The statement urged all countries to uphold multilateralism, oppose unilateralism and protectionism, and safeguard the WTO-centered global trading system.

“Development is an inalienable right of all countries,” China declared, expressing confidence that most nations will stand for fairness and justice on the global stage.
