China Has Not Ruled Taiwan for a Single Day Says Ambassador Chow

Taiwan’s Ambassador to Fiji, Joseph Chow, has clapped back at both the Chinese Embassy in Fiji and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, rejecting claims that Taiwan has “always been part of China” and calling the statement a distortion of history and reality.
Ambassador Chow said the People’s Republic of China has never governed Taiwan, not even for a single day, and emphasized that Taiwan is a democratic society of 23 million people whose leaders are chosen through free and fair elections.
He clarified that United Nations General Assembly Resolution 2758 addressed only the issue of China’s representation at the United Nations and did not determine Taiwan’s sovereignty or authorize Beijing to represent Taiwan.
Ambassador Chow stressed that Taiwan’s future must be decided peacefully and democratically by its people, adding that attempts to misrepresent history or international law will not change that reality.
He further noted that the international community increasingly views peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait as a global concern, rather than an internal matter of China. Taiwan in Fiji
