Chinese Ambassador Zhou Jian reaffirmed China’s commitment to Fiji during a visit to Taveuni, where he met with the local Chinese community and donated 40 solar streetlights worth FJD 82,000 to Somosomo Village.

His visit comes as Fiji and China celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations and 170 years of Chinese presence in Fiji.

Addressing the community, Ambassador Zhou encouraged them to uphold the enterprising spirit of the Chinese nation and continue their contributions to Fiji’s development.

He emphasized that the Chinese Embassy remains dedicated to supporting overseas Chinese and fostering stronger bilateral ties.

The solar streetlight donation reflects China’s ongoing efforts in rural revitalization, climate action, and sustainable development in Fiji.

Ambassador Zhou highlighted Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka’s visit to China last year, where he witnessed China’s success in poverty alleviation and rural development.

He expressed confidence that Fiji could achieve similar progress with the right support and initiatives.
