Suspended Corrections Commissioner Dr. Jalesi Nakarawa has challenged his suspension, questioning the legal basis of the decision and the role of Minister for Justice Siromi Turaga in the process.

Dr. Nakarawa claims that Section 137 of the Constitution does not grant the minister authority to recommend his removal.

He also argues that he was not given due process, as no clear allegations of “misbehavior” were presented before his suspension.

“The COC should have independently assessed the claims before acting. Instead, I was removed without a clear case against me,” he said.

Dr. Nakarawa also alleges that he faced a coordinated social media attack before the COC meeting, which he believes influenced the decision.

The Constitutional Offices Commission (COC), Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, and Minister Siromi Turaga have yet to respond to these claims.

Dr. Nakarawa has instructed his legal team to take further action if necessary.
