Entrepreneur, autism mom, and advocate Riddhi Damodar has welcomed the announcement by Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro on the comprehensive review of the Education Act, describing it as a timely and necessary step to address ongoing challenges in Fiji’s education system.
In a statement posted on her official Facebook page, Ms. Damodar highlighted key areas needing attention, including inclusive education, digital learning, early childhood development, school governance, teacher development, and accountability.
She also acknowledged the foundational work done by the previous FijiFirst government in expanding access to free education and developing policies on inclusive education. According to Damodar, FijiFirst played a key role in securing funding from the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) to support sector planning, which included the initial steps toward reviewing the Act.
“Welcoming reform is one thing; delivering on it is another,” she wrote. “We will be watching closely to ensure this process leads to genuine implementation—not just policy on paper.”
Ms. Damodar urged the Ministry to ensure that the nationwide consultations promised as part of the review process are inclusive and that the voices of all Fijians—particularly those most affected by policy outcomes—are genuinely heard and reflected in the final outcome.
