Daveta and Salusalu Appointed as New Permanent Secretaries for Policing and Immigration

The Public Service Commission, with the concurrence of the Prime Minister, has announced the appointments of two new Permanent Secretaries to key government ministries.

Mr. Berenado Kolinio Daveta has been appointed as the new Permanent Secretary for Policing, effective immediately.

Mr. Daveta brings a wealth of experience in law enforcement and international peacekeeping to the role.

He previously served as Director of the Special Branch in the Fiji Police Force, Chief of Staff, Divisional Police Commander South, and as Force Contingent Commander in the United Nations Mission in Darfur, Sudan.

Most recently, he worked as a Senior Consultant with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Suva.

He holds a double master’s degree in Governance and Business Administration from the University of the South Pacific.

Meanwhile, Mr. Aliki Vuli Salusalu has been named the new Permanent Secretary for Immigration, with his appointment to take effect in mid-June 2025.

Mr. Salusalu is a professional engineer with extensive experience in both government and international roles.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree with distinction in Computer Engineering and a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering with honours from the University of Western Sydney in Australia. He is also a professional member of the Institute of Engineers in Australia.

From 2007 to 2012, he served as Director of ITC Services within the Fiji Government and later as Counsellor at Fiji’s diplomatic mission in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

He has also held engineering project roles in Australia across various organisations.

Chairman of the Public Service Commission, Luke Rokovada, said the appointments reflect the government’s commitment to strengthening leadership and capability across critical sectors.
