The Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs yesterday welcomed Director General of the Multinational Force and Observers (MFO), Elizabeth L. Dibble, on her official visit to Fiji.
Acting Minister for Defence and Veteran Affairs, Hon. Filimoni Vosarogo, received Ms. Dibble and held key discussions on Fiji’s long-standing contribution to peacekeeping efforts in the Sinai Peninsula, where Fijian troops have served since 1982—three years after the signing of the Egypt-Israel Peace Treaty in 1979.
Talks focused on the evolving role of the MFO amid growing instability in the region, particularly in areas bordering the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict.
Hon. Vosarogo highlighted the importance of providing skills upgrades for troops stationed in the northern camp, emphasizing that such preparation is vital for mission success.
“The need for troops in the northern camp to receive skills upgrade is essential to their mission,” Hon. Vosarogo said during the meeting.
Fiji remains a committed partner in global peacekeeping efforts, and the visit reaffirms the country’s dedication to supporting international stability through multilateral cooperation.
