Don’t Take Women for Granted, Says Nemani

The Permanent Secretary for Employment, Productivity and Workplace Relations, Mr. Maritino Nemani, has thanked the women of Fiji for their immeasurable contribution to the country, while urging everyone not to take them for granted.
“Women contribute to our country in so many ways it is almost unfathomable. They are leaders, workers, they care for our families, manage households, raise children, are entrepreneurs and help drive our economy forward,” said Nemani.
“Too often, we get used to this. We don’t always pause to realise the sheer amount of work women do, carrying us through hard times and good times to keep Fiji standing strong.”
Nemani said it can be easy to take these contributions for granted, but if women suddenly stopped doing the many roles they carry out every day, the country would struggle to function.
“We sometimes overlook how much women do because it has become such a normal part of our lives, but the reality is that our families, communities and workplaces depend on their dedication and strength.”
Mr. Nemani also highlighted the importance of encouraging and supporting women and girls to participate in sports, noting that sport plays a vital role in building confidence, leadership and healthy communities.
“Women in sports continue to break barriers and inspire the next generation. We must continue to support and encourage greater participation so that more women and girls can benefit from the opportunities sport provides.”
Nemani also reminded everyone that while International Women’s Day is an important occasion, appreciation for women should not be limited to one day of the year.
“Women truly are the backbone of our nation, not just in words but in action, and we must recognise that every day, not just on a special occasion.”
Nemani thanked the women of Fiji for their dedication, resilience and the many sacrifices they continue to make for their families, communities and the nation.
