Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Hon. Professor Biman Prasad has reaffirmed Fiji’s commitment to regional integration, economic resilience, and stronger international partnerships during his address at the 50th Congress of the Fiji Institute of Chartered Accountants (FICA) in Nadi.

Speaking at the event, Professor Prasad said Fiji’s foreign policy—under the new National Development Plan 2025–2029 and Vision 2050—focuses on building global alliances, promoting the Pacific as an “ocean of peace,” and advancing prosperity through trade and cooperation.

He emphasized the need for development partners to align their programs with national priorities, and called for deeper regional collaboration, including a visa-free Pacific and shared infrastructure across island nations.

On the upcoming national budget, Professor Prasad assured delegates that no new taxes would be introduced. Instead, the government aims to close compliance gaps and increase operational spending, particularly on social welfare, agriculture support, and infrastructure, to prepare for possible global economic downturns.

He also acknowledged the continued support of Fiji’s development partners and recognized FICA’s critical role in shaping the national economy.

A slight increase in government funding for the organization was also announced as part of this year’s budget.
