The Swire Shipping Fijian Drua will regroup after suffering a 40–26 defeat to Moana Pasifika in their Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific season opener at Churchill Park in Lautoka.

Moana Pasifika made their intentions clear early, dominating possession and territory in the opening minutes. A strong driving maul set the tone, with number eight Semisi Ta’eiloa crashing over for the first try to give the visitors an early lead.

The pressure continued as Moana capitalised on field position to score again and stretch their advantage before flanker Jonathan Taunateine crossed from a lineout set-piece, putting the Drua under significant pressure in the first half.

The home side eventually responded through centre Tuidraki Samusamuvodre, who finished off a promising attacking move after the Drua regained possession in Moana territory. However, a yellow card to Mesake Vocevoce proved costly, with Moana taking advantage of the numerical edge to add another try through Tevita Ofa.

The Drua showed resilience before halftime, with a strong attacking build-up ending in flanker Kitione Salawa touching down after a break and offload from Virimi Vakatawa, leaving Moana ahead 28–12 at the break.

Moana extended their lead shortly after the restart when captain Miracle Fai’ilagi crossed in the corner following defensive lapses by the hosts. The Drua fought back through fullback Ilaisa Droasese, who finished off a slick attacking movement before later producing a key 40–20 kick that set up another scoring opportunity.

Co-captain Temo Mayanavanua powered over to narrow the deficit and spark hopes of a comeback, but despite sustained pressure in the closing stages, the Drua were unable to close the gap as Moana Pasifika held firm for the win.
