The Minister for Education, Honourable Aseri Radrodro, has denied claims published in the media alleging that he interfered with the decision to halt the Deans and Raluve rugby competitions scheduled to begin this Saturday.

Hon. Radrodro addressed the issue by rejecting what he described as unsubstantiated claims from a media outlet quoting a “close source.” He clarified that the Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby competitions would proceed as planned.

He said the Deans and Raluve Rugby competitions were not postponed and confirmed that the 2025 season would commence as scheduled. He pointed out that the Acting Permanent Secretary for Education had already approved the 2025 Fiji Secondary School Rugby Union (FSSRU) 7s Tournament, including the Deans and Raluve season, on May 5, 2025.

He further stated that the media should verify their information before publishing, and confirmed that at no time did he issue any directive to FSSRU officials instructing them not to proceed with this weekend’s matches.

The Education Minister reiterated his commitment to supporting extracurricular activities, saying the Ministry would ensure all necessary medical and safety protocols were in place. He encouraged the public to focus on empowering young athletes and promoting a positive sporting culture.

Hon. Radrodro added that the Ministry would continue to provide platforms for young athletes to showcase their talents, as this aligns with the holistic education approach promoted in schools.
