The Minister for Education, Honourable Aseri Radrodro, has extended his warmest encouragement and best wishes to all Year 5 and Year 7 students across the country as they sit for the 2025 Literacy and Numeracy Assessment (LANA).
The national diagnostic assessment begins today, Tuesday 22 July, with the Literacy paper, followed by the Numeracy paper on Wednesday 23 July. Catch-up sessions are scheduled for Thursday 24 and Friday 25 July.
“As you prepare for and approach the 2025 Literacy and Numeracy Assessment, remember that this exercise is a noteworthy turning point—marking not only the result of your determination and perseverance but also a stepping stone towards enhancing your literacy and numeracy skills,” Minister Radrodro said.
This year, a total of 18,397 Year 5 students are registered in 722 centres, while 19,559 Year 7 students will sit the assessment in 720 centres.
For comparison:
In 2024, 18,835 Year 5 students and 18,340 Year 7 students were registered across 718 and 705 centres respectively.
In 2023, 19,618 Year 5 and 19,298 Year 7 students were registered in 716 and 712 centres respectively.
LANA is designed to reflect students’ foundational skills in literacy and numeracy, and to support evidence-based decision-making for targeted interventions and improvement strategies in schools.
The Honourable Minister has urged parents and guardians to offer support and encouragement to their children during this important period.
He also reminded Heads of Schools to ensure that LANA is administered as scheduled and in accordance with official guidelines.
“We hope the outcome of this assessment will help guide intervention programmes that can better meet the learning needs of our students,” he added.
