EFL Requests Emergency Fuel Surcharge as Global Prices Rise
FIJI NEWS

Energy Fiji Limited (EFL) has submitted a request for an emergency fuel surcharge adjustment, citing rising global fuel costs.
The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) confirmed it is currently reviewing the request, with no decision made at this stage.
EFL said the cost of heavy fuel oil and industrial diesel has increased significantly due to ongoing volatility in international markets, placing pressure on its short-term operations.
FCCC acknowledged that these cost pressures are driven by global conditions outside of EFL’s control, but emphasised that any changes to electricity pricing must be carefully assessed due to the direct impact on households and businesses.
Given the urgency, the Commission is carrying out an expedited review, including consultations with key stakeholders and technical experts.
FCCC said its role is to balance two key priorities — protecting consumers from sudden price increases, while ensuring the continued reliability of electricity supply across the country.
Any decision, it added, will be based on evidence and subject to conditions aimed at minimising the impact on consumers.
