Elderly Woman Killed in Buca Bay Road Accident

A woman in her 60s is believed to be the country’s latest road fatality following an accident along the Buca Bay Road near Vatudamu this morning.

Police say the victim was one of ten passengers in a four-wheel drive vehicle driven by a man in his 30s. It is alleged the driver failed to negotiate a bend, resulting in the accident.

The woman was conveyed to the Savusavu Hospital, where medical officials confirmed her death.

Two other passengers remain admitted at the Labasa Hospital. Investigations are ongoing, and police say the driver will be brought in for questioning.

The national road death toll now stands at 26, compared to 24 for the same period last year.
