The Ministry of Employment, Productivity and Workplace Relations has officially launched the National Employment Centre (NEC) Local Employment Registration System, marking a positive step forward in the use of digital technology to improve employment services in Fiji.

The new system is part of the Ministry’s ongoing digital transformation agenda and is designed to improve efficiency, accessibility and the use of data to support better employment outcomes for job seekers.

Employment Minister Hon. Agni Deo Singh said the launch reflects the Ministry’s commitment to modernising public services.

“The system is a key milestone in our digital journey. It allows us to better support job seekers while improving efficiency and transparency within the Ministry,” Minister Singh said.

“Through innovation and automation, we are ensuring that employment services remain relevant and responsive to the needs of our workforce.”

The NEC system builds on earlier digital initiatives by the Ministry, including the paperless labour inspection system introduced in 2025, and supports the continued digitalisation of occupational health and safety and workers’ compensation services.

Permanent Secretary for Employment Mr. Maritino Nemani said the system will improve how job seekers and employers are connected.

“This platform helps us match job seekers with employment opportunities more effectively while identifying skills gaps and labour market needs,” Mr. Nemani said.

“Future enhancements will allow employers to post vacancies and notify suitable applicants, creating a digital space similar to a job fair.”

The system aims to support employment placement, productivity growth and long-term employability, while strengthening the link between skills development, productivity and decent work.

The Ministry says it will continue to improve the system over time, guided by feedback from employers and workers.

“We are committed to continuously improving our services to meet changing needs,” Minister Singh added.
