A remarkable 5,500 women are currently engaged in Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) across Fiji, alongside 18,742 self-employed women and 4,650 women working in handicrafts.

This significant involvement was highlighted by the President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere during the South Pacific Business Development (SPBD) Awards Night, themed "Women-Led Micro-Enterprises Enriching Lives and Building Futures."

During the gala event held at the Vodafone Arena, President Ratu Wiliame emphasized the importance of economically empowering women, noting that they become key agents of change and prosperity for future generations.

He remarked that the evening's theme aptly reflects the transformative impact women are making on Fiji's socio-economic landscape.

The event brought together women from over 400 SPBD centers across the country to celebrate their entrepreneurial spirit.

Elena Tinai from the Saru Centre in Lautoka was honored with the title of SPBD Businesswoman of the Year for her exceptional contributions to the community.

Ratu Wiliame praised the holistic approach of women-led enterprises, which focus on sustainable livelihoods, addressing social challenges, and nurturing future generations.

He commended the foundational work that continues to elevate the status of women in MSMEs throughout Fiji.

The President pointed out that the achievements of the nominees serve as powerful reminders of the limitless potential within every individual when provided with the right opportunities.

He emphasized the vital role of SPBD in supporting women to transform their dreams into thriving businesses, stating, "Their courage to take that first step towards financial independence is an inspiration to us all."

Ratu Wiliame highlighted the significance of micro-enterprises, particularly those operated by women, in fostering economic participation and financial independence.

He noted that the MSME sector has enabled many women to enhance their families' living standards, invest in education, and contribute positively to their communities.

In his closing remarks, the President reaffirmed the importance of these businesses in alleviating poverty and advancing gender equality in Fiji.

He expressed his satisfaction that the country is increasingly focused on micro-financial facilities to support women entrepreneurs.
