Empty Stands as Bula FC Scrape Past Last-Placed Hekari
SPORTS

Fijian football fans appeared to send a strong message over transparency concerns at Bula FC, as large sections of Govind Park in Ba were left empty during their match against last-placed Hekari United of PNG.
This comes in stark contrast to recent matches at the same venue, where crowds packed the stadium and even climbed trees outside to watch the Drua and the Ba vs Suva clash.
Despite weeks of aggressive marketing, Bula FC and the OFC Pro League failed to attract a similar level of interest.
Earlier in the season, newly formed club chairman Marc McElrath told the Fiji Sun that the club had no obligation to disclose its dealings to fans.
“It really has nothing to do with the fans because it’s a private company,” McElrath said when questioned about how private contracts were awarded to a company linked to the husband of a Fiji Football Association Vice President.
His comments sparked significant backlash among football fans, many of whom needed to be convinced to support this newly formed club, which they had no prior sentimental connection to.
On the field, Bula FC managed a narrow 1-0 victory, with Supyk scoring in the 61st minute against the bottom-placed Hekari side.
