Families Urged to Lead Fight Against Drugs
FIJI NEWS

The Ministry of Employment, Productivity and Workplace Relations has called on Fijian families to play a leading role in protecting children and strengthening communities following the successful conclusion of the Seventh Fiji Family Focus (FFF) Workshop in Suva.
The four-day workshop, held from 23 to 26 June, was organised by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in partnership with the National Employment Centre (NEC) and the Australian Government.
Closing the workshop, Permanent Secretary Jone Maritino Nemani said the programme reinforced the importance of strong families as the foundation of resilient communities and a stronger Fiji.
He said participants spent the week developing practical skills in communication, peaceful conflict resolution, emotional wellbeing and future planning, all of which are essential for building healthier and safer homes.
Mr Nemani said the workshop also strengthened the shared commitment that violence has no place in families and that every home should be built on respect, understanding, dignity, care, equality and unity.
The workshop concluded on the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, with Mr Nemani highlighting the important role families play in preventing drug abuse.
"Strong families are the first line of defence against the dangers of drugs and illicit substances. Prevention begins at home through open communication, trust and guidance," he said.
He reminded participants that the workshop marked the beginning of a lifelong commitment rather than the end of a programme.
"Strong families build strong communities. Strong communities build a strong Fiji. The work you have started here is important not just for your own households but for the future of our nation," Mr Nemani said.
