Family of Five Rescued After Vehicle Accident in Labasa
FIJI NEWS

A family of five was rescued after their vehicle veered off the road and overturned at Tuatua in Labasa on Saturday morning.
The incident occurred at around 8.02am when the National Fire Authority of Fiji received an emergency call reporting a vehicle fire. Firefighters from the Labasa Fire Station responded immediately and arrived at the scene within minutes.
Upon arrival, firefighters found that the vehicle had gone off the road and overturned in a nearby compound. The family was travelling to Nabouwalu to catch an inter-island ferry to Natovi at the time of the accident.
Bystanders at the scene managed to rescue the occupants and transport them to Labasa Hospital before firefighters arrived. Fire crews then secured the area by switching off the vehicle’s ignition and handed the scene over to police for further investigation.
The National Fire Authority says it remains the primary agency responsible for Road Accident Rescue operations across Fiji. In 2024, the Authority responded to 180 vehicle accidents, while by the end of November 2025, it had already attended 159 similar incidents.
The Authority is urging members of the public to report road accidents immediately by calling 910 to allow emergency responders to act quickly and save lives.
