A 54-year-old farmer and a 26-year-old woman from Seqaqa are set to appear in the Labasa Magistrate Court today, facing charges of obtaining financial advantage.

Police allege that on July 19, 2022, the farmer tricked a victim into sending $356 through the M-PAiSA platform.

He reportedly told the victim that money had been sent to her account by mistake and asked her to return it.

After the victim sent the money, the farmer quickly transferred it to the 26-year-old woman’s M-PAiSA account.

When the victim realized the money had been moved without her consent, she reported the incident to the Taveuni Police Station.

Both accused are in police custody and will appear in court today.
