FCCC Announces New Fuel and LPG Prices for April 2025
FIJI NEWS

The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) has announced the new regulated prices for Unleaded Petrol (Motor Spirit), Premix, Kerosene, Diesel, and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) products for April 2025.
These new prices, which take effect from Tuesday, April 1, 2025, reflect changes in global market trends and economic factors.
FCCC’s pricing review follows a one-month lag period, meaning the April 2025 fuel prices are based on refined fuel and butane imports made in February 2025. Fuel prices in Fiji are influenced by factors such as the Means of Platts Singapore (MOPS), international freight rates, and foreign exchange rates.
Motor spirit and premix prices will decrease due to:
A significant drop in international refined fuel prices.
An increase in international freight rates, which partially offset the decrease.
A weakened US dollar against the Fijian dollar, making fuel imports relatively cheaper.
Similarly, kerosene and diesel prices will also decrease, influenced by:
Lower international refined fuel prices for kerosene and diesel.
A rise in international freight rates.
A slight weakening of the US dollar against the Fijian dollar.
February 2025 saw a decline in global crude oil prices, reversing previous gains due to:
Heavy selling in the crude oil futures market.
Reduced refinery intake and seasonal maintenance affecting demand.
Concerns over US trade policies and geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and Eastern Europe.
An increase in US crude stockpiles, which contributed to lower oil prices.
Market sentiment remained cautious as investors monitored the impact of trade policies, particularly regarding potential US tariffs on Canada, Mexico, and China. However, temporary relief came when the US delayed imposing these tariffs for 30 days. Despite this, geopolitical tensions in the Middle East added a risk premium to oil markets, causing fluctuations in crude oil pricing.
While fuel prices are set to decrease, LPG prices will rise in April 2025 due to the following factors:
An increase in Butane Contract Prices (CP) from USD 615 to USD 625 per metric tonne, a 1.63% rise.
A minimal decrease in international freight costs.
A slight weakening of the exchange rate against the US dollar.
Saudi Aramco raised Butane CP due to limited supply, leading to price increases in the Fijian market. Additionally, weather-related disruptions in the US and strong demand from India contributed to the higher prices.
FCCC has assured consumers that their enforcement team will monitor compliance with the new fuel and LPG prices. Inspections will be carried out at retail outlets and service stations nationwide.
Consumers are encouraged to report any unfair trading practices, such as hoarding or overcharging, to FCCC via mobile phone at 8921991 or email at helpdesk@fccc.gov.fj.
The new fuel and LPG prices serve as a reflection of international market trends and economic conditions.
FCCC continues to regulate and monitor pricing to ensure fairness for Fijian consumers while maintaining a stable and competitive market environment.
