FCCC Assures No Cement Shortage, But Cost of Living Remains a Concern
FIJI NEWS

The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) has assured consumers that no cement shortage is expected despite Pacific Cement Pte Limited temporarily suspending operations for mill repairs.
FCCC CEO Ms Senikavika L. Jiuta said that supply remains stable, with Tengy Cement increasing production to cover the gap. Repairs at Pacific Cement are expected to be completed by 27 May 2025.
"Consumers can be confident that their needs will be met, and we will not tolerate any unfair practices that seek to exploit this situation,” Ms Jiuta said.
While supply is secure according to FCCC, cement prices — like the cost of many essential goods — continue to climb, adding to broader cost of living pressures. With inflation biting into household budgets, observers say managing rising prices will likely be the defining challenge for Ms Jiuta as FCCC's new CEO.
FCCC, which regulates cement pricing under the FCCC Act 2010, has warned traders against unjustified price hikes and urged consumers to report any suspected price gouging by contacting FCCC directly at 892 1991 or online at https://linktr.ee/fijianccc.
