FCCC, LTA Carry Out Taxi Meter Inspections in Central Division

The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) and the Land Transport Authority (LTA) have begun joint inspections of taxi operators in the Central Division to ensure fares being charged to passengers comply with approved regulations.

The inspections follow similar compliance operations recently carried out in the Western Division.

FCCC said officers are working alongside LTA to inspect taxis and verify that operators are using LTA-approved taxi meters that have been correctly calibrated to reflect the authorised temporary taxi fare adjustment.

The exercise is aimed at ensuring passengers are charged the correct fares while confirming taxi operators are complying with regulatory requirements.

According to the FCCC, the inspections form part of its ongoing efforts to promote fair trading practices and maintain confidence in Fiji's public transport sector.

The Commission has encouraged members of the public to report any concerns about taxi fares or suspected overcharging so appropriate action can be taken.

FCCC and LTA are expected to continue similar compliance operations in other divisions as part of their nationwide monitoring programme.
