The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) has launched preliminary investigations into claims of serious mistreatment made by 26 Bangladeshi workers against their employer.

According to a statement issued on Facebook, six workers formally lodged a complaint with FICAC on behalf of the group.

The allegations include unpaid wages, poor living conditions, inadequate food, denial of medical care, breaches of employment contracts, and threats of deportation. The workers are reportedly employed by a locally registered business and are residing in Koronivia.

The complainants also claimed that their previous appeals to the Department of Immigration and the Ministry of Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations failed to bring any resolution.

FICAC stated that it is currently assessing the evidence to determine whether any breaches of the FICAC Act or other related laws have occurred.

The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to justice and the fight against corruption and exploitation.
