The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) has rejected recent public statements made by Opposition MP Jone Usamate regarding the reinstatement of individuals allegedly linked to the Commission.

In a statement issued by Acting Commissioner, FICAC clarified that Mr Kuli Raqisa and Mr Mesake Waqa have never been employed by the Commission in any capacity, describing suggestions otherwise as “factually incorrect and misleading.”

The Commission has urged the Honourable Member and members of the public to refrain from further commentary on the matter and await the official report from the Office of the President.

“Employment matters within FICAC fall solely under the Commission’s statutory authority,” the Acting Commissioner stated, noting that the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption Act 2007 grants the Commissioner full legal responsibility over internal governance, including recruitment, appointments, and disciplinary actions.

FICAC also stressed its operational independence, adding that political or public pressure would not influence its internal decisions.

The Commission said no further public statements will be made at this stage while internal consultations continue.
