Fiji is keen on enhancing its economic ties with the United States in areas such as trade, investment, and technology.

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka discussed these goals during a meeting with U.S. Acting Under Secretary of State for International Trade, Diane Farrell, in Washington on February 5, 2025.

The meeting highlighted significant investments by Google and Starlink in Fiji's ICT sector, positioning Fiji as a digital connectivity hub in the Pacific.

Rabuka thanked the U.S. for its increased presence in the region and expressed optimism about the growth of trade and tourism following the new Fiji-U.S. Air Transport Agreement, which saw Fiji Airways launch direct flights to Dallas.

Despite a 90-day freeze on foreign aid by the U.S., Rabuka hopes it won't affect the growth of USAID programs in key areas like climate resilience, health, and digital connectivity.

Farrell expressed gratitude for Rabuka's visit and emphasized the U.S.'s commitment to exploring more economic opportunities with Fiji.
