According to Acting Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, HonBiman Prasad, Fiji has collected $1.8 billion in taxes between August 2024 and January 2025, surpassing estimates by $136.4 million.
This accounts for 55% of the total tax revenue planned for the current financial year.
Speaking at a membership renewal event in Suva, Prasad said the higher tax collection reflects Fiji’s strong economic performance.
He emphasized that tax revenue plays a key role in funding essential services such as education, healthcare, social welfare, and infrastructure projects like roads, ports, and clean water systems.
The government views this positive tax performance as a sign of economic resilience, which will help improve public services and support ongoing development efforts nationwide.
