Fiji Corrections Service Clarifies Role of Commissioner and Bainimarama's Release
FIJI NEWS

The Fiji Corrections Service (FCS) has issued a press release to address public concerns regarding the role of the Commissioner of Corrections and the recent release of former Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama.
The FCS emphasized the independence of the Commissioner’s office, which operates under the Constitutional Offices Commission and is not subject to external control, ensuring the integrity of its operations.
Bainimarama’s early release was assessed based on eligibility criteria in the Corrections Act, focusing on procedural justice, conduct, and health, without considering his political background.
The FCS reassured the public of its commitment to justice, fairness, and legal compliance, while an allegation of nepotism is being investigated by FICAC.
