Fiji Farewells Parmesh Chand, A Dedicated Servant of the People

The Fiji Government and civil service community paid their final respects yesterday to the late Parmesh Chand, former Permanent Secretary and longtime public servant, who passed away over the weekend.

A memorial and funeral service was attended by senior government officials including Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka and Deputy Prime Minister Biman Prasad, along with current and former Permanent Secretaries, departmental heads, colleagues, and members of the public.

Many from across Fiji and around the world, including development partners and former colleagues abroad, have expressed their sorrow and respect for a man remembered for his integrity, humility, and decades of contribution to public administration and nation-building.

Mr. Chand served under multiple administrations and held senior leadership roles throughout his career. His work spanned governance reform, civil service modernization, and institutional strengthening.

His passing marks the end of a distinguished era in Fiji’s public service. Tributes continue to flow from across sectors, recognising Mr. Chand’s steady leadership, professionalism, and unwavering dedication to the nation.

He is survived by his family.
