Fijian-born lawyer Noel Lal is making waves in Canada’s legal scene, handling high-profile cases and representing clients in complex legal battles in British Columbia.

Recently, his work has garnered attention for his involvement in a high-profile case against the City of Richmond over a liquor licence issue. Lal argued that the city had exceeded its authority, maintaining that such decisions should be made by the Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch, not the city council.

Lal’s reputation in British Columbia has been built on his successful representation of clients in significant legal matters, including his appearances in the British Columbia Supreme Court. His ability to navigate challenging legal situations has made him a sought-after attorney in both commercial and criminal cases.

Lal, a Fijian citizen, was born in Fiji and graduated from the University of the South Pacific. He practised law in Fiji for many years, building a strong reputation in various areas of law, including civil, administrative, property, commercial, and criminal law.

He also holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from The University of British Columbia, which has further strengthened his expertise in international and Canadian law.

Lal currently practices at Davison North Law in Vancouver, British Columbia, where he handles a wide range of legal matters.

Despite his busy schedule in Canada, he continues to consult on many legal cases back home, maintaining a close connection to his Fijian roots.

“I love Fiji, and my heart will always be there. I still consult on cases in Fiji and intend to practice in my home country as well as Canada,” Lal said when contacted for a comment.

Outside the courtroom, Lal is well-known for his strong ties to the Fijian community, both in Canada and Fiji. A passionate advocate for justice, he is driven by a desire to make a meaningful impact, often taking on cases that affect people's lives beyond legal principles. His work continues to make a lasting impression in both countries.

It's always heartwarming to see one of our own succeed abroad while actively giving back to Fiji.
