The Ministry of Health and Medical Services yesterday, commemorated Fiji’s inaugural World Skin Health Day at Tamavua Twomey Hospital, marking a major milestone in the nation’s public health priorities.

Assistant Minister for Health and Medical Services, Hon. Penioni Ravunawa, officiated the ceremony, describing it as a “significant step forward in recognizing skin health as a national agenda.”

“Today, we join countries around the world to mark this important day, with a powerful theme: ‘No Health Without Skin Health,’” Hon. Ravunawa said.

He emphasized the critical role skin plays as the body’s largest organ — serving as a vital barrier, frontline defense, and a mirror of one’s overall wellbeing.

“For too long, skin diseases have been neglected in global health dialogue, often dismissed as cosmetic or non-life threatening,” he said. “But the narrative is changing — and I’m proud to say that Fiji is part of that change.”
