“Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun, and in the morning — we will remember them.”

The Ministry of Defence and Veterans Affairs this morning led the national Remembrance Day commemoration at the National War Memorial on Battery Road, Suva.

The ceremony included the laying of wreaths by Government representatives, members of the disciplined forces, diplomatic missions, veterans’ organisations, and families of fallen service members. A moment of silence was observed in honour of Fijians who served in global conflicts and peacekeeping missions.

Remembrance Day acknowledges the end of the First World War on 11 November 1918 and continues to serve as a national reflection on sacrifice, duty, and service. Fiji’s military heritage spans from the Pacific campaigns of the Second World War to ongoing peacekeeping operations around the world.

The event paid tribute to those who never returned home, and to the veterans and families who continue to carry their legacy.
