Fiji Overstayers Warned by U.S. Government
FIJI NEWS

Fijians traveling to the United States are being warned in no uncertain terms about the consequences of overstaying their visas.
The U.S. Embassy in Suva issued a strong statement on social media, cautioning travelers that violating visa conditions could result in a permanent ban from entering the United States and possible criminal prosecution.
“If you overstay your U.S. visa, you could face a permanent ban on travel to the United States as well as criminal prosecution,” the Embassy posted. “Consular officers have full access to your immigration history and will know about past violations. There is no such thing as an ‘honest mistake.’”
This warning appears to be part of a broader U.S. government effort to crack down on illegal immigration and visa overstays, a focus that has intensified under the Trump administration.
U.S. immigration authorities have prioritized deportations not only of undocumented immigrants but also those who have overstayed their visas—a group that constitutes a significant portion of the undocumented population in the U.S.
Under President Trump’s immigration policies, enforcement has been ramped up with increased cooperation between immigration enforcement agencies and local authorities.
With the U.S. maintaining detailed immigration records, even short overstays can have lasting consequences.
Fijians are advised to stay informed and comply fully with their visa terms to avoid jeopardizing future travel opportunities.
