The Fijian Parliament has approved the sitting calendar for 2025, allowing members to continue their important work throughout the year.
Ro Filipe Tuisawau, the Leader of Government in Parliament, emphasized that the calendar will help the six standing committees complete their pending annual reports and address any bills brought before the House.
He noted that the success of the sitting calendar relies on the cooperation of all members, as the committees play a key role in connecting Parliament with the public.
The Parliament's 2025 sitting year will officially begin on February 24th with an opening by President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu.
The first sitting will last two weeks, from March 3rd to 7th and March 10th to 14th, where members will debate the President’s speech and other important issues.
Further sittings are scheduled for April 20th to May 2nd, and June 2nd to 6th.
The national budget will be announced on June 27th, followed by a debate from July 7th to 11th.
The remaining sittings for the year are set for August 4th to 8th, September 29th to October 3rd, and November 30th to December 7th.
Ro Filipe Tuisawau urged all members to support the calendar, which will enable Parliament to carry out its duties in lawmaking, representation, and oversight.
He highlighted that 2025 is a crucial year for the government’s legislative agenda.
